On the other hand, Goldman’s chief Japanese economist, Tomohiro Ota,
suggests that the larger-than-expected wage gains during annual wage negotiations could be an indicator of the possibility of exiting negative interest rates.

Although the central bank has eased its yield curve control policy on long-term interest rates over 16 months,
it has kept the interest rate at 0.1%, while still maintaining a 10-year government bond yield cap at 1% as a benchmark.
