U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the imposition of a broad range of tariffs on the United States’ trading partners,
including a baseline 10% tariff on most imports, along with additional duties targeting specific countries.
Among these is a 25% tax on all foreign-manufactured cars, set to take effect at midnight on Wednesday.

During a press conference at the White House,
Trump did not clarify whether vehicles from Canada or other North American countries would be exempt,
but he emphasized that the high tariffs imposed by countries like South Korea and Japan present a “real problem” for the United States.

The president presented a chart outlining a tiered tariff system on a wide array of countries in an effort to rebalance trade and reduce the deficit.
The measures include a 34% tariff on Chinese imports, 20% on the European Union, 25% on South Korea, and 24% on Japan,
in addition to varying rates between 10% and 49% on other Asian, European, and Latin American countries.

Trump described the announcement as “Liberation Day,” declaring it the end of decades of
what he called trade exploitation of the United States by its partners — particularly in terms of tariff restrictions,
intellectual property violations, and unfair trade practices.

“American taxpayers have borne the cost for decades, but that changes starting today,” Trump said,
adding that Washington would now take a firm stance against countries imposing trade barriers
and would reciprocate against any policies it deems unfair to U.S. interests.

He concluded with a clear message: “America First,” signaling more potential trade measures in the future
as part of his effort to protect domestic industries
and strengthen what he termed “American economic independence.”
