BYD Shares Fall Despite Doubling Quarterly Profits

Shares of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD fell during Monday’s
trading despite the company announcing strong financial results for the first quarter of 2025,
Driven by a notable rise in electric vehicle sales.
According to BYD’s announcement last Friday, the company reported a net profit of 9.15 billion yuan
(approximately $1.26 billion) for the three months ending March 31, marking a 100.4% increase compared to last year.
Quarterly revenues also rose by 36.4%, reaching 170.4 billion yuan,
indicating the continued strong momentum in the electric vehicle market despite global economic challenges.
Despite these strong results, BYD shares, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange,
came under selling pressure, falling by 4.2% to HK$380.40.
Media reports suggest that analysts expect a decrease in per-vehicle
Profitability in upcoming periods caused this decline, raising concerns about future profit margins.

These developments come as BYD continues expanding its share in the electric vehicle market,
both domestically and internationally.
It faces increasing competition from major players such as
Tesla and other traditional and emerging competitors in the sector.

Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated this during a Washington speech on Friday,
later published on the central bank’s website.
Malhotra pointed out that although this growth rate
is lower than the rates recorded over the past few years and does not fully meet India’s ambitious aspirations,

He emphasized that India’s strong domestic demand and relatively low export dependence
