Chinese stock indexes posted strong gains at the close of Wednesday’s session following Beijing’s announcement of new monetary easing measures aimed at supporting economic growth amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States. The Shanghai Composite Index rose by 0.8% to close at 3,342 points, the CSI 300 climbed 0.6% to 3,831 points, and the Shenzhen Composite increased by 0.45% to 1,967 points.

This rally came after comments from People’s Bank of China Governor Pan Gongsheng, hinting at a potential interest rate cut and the injection of liquidity into the banking system, which boosted market sentiment. Meanwhile, the yuan fell against the dollar by 0.15%, reaching 7.2267 yuan, in response to the stimulus measures.

In Japan, market performance was mixed as investors returned from a two-day holiday. The Nikkei 225 dropped 0.15% to 36,779 points, while the Topix rose 0.3% to 2,696 points. Japanese bond yields climbed significantly, reflecting growing concern over new tariffs planned by U.S. President Donald Trump on pharmaceuticals, which weighed heavily on healthcare sector stocks. Shares of Toyota and Sony also fell sharply ahead of earnings reports and developments regarding tariffs on imported entertainment products.

In the cryptocurrency space, markets experienced a sharp rally driven by announcements from China and the U.S. to resume trade negotiations this week, boosting appetite for high-risk assets. Bitcoin surged by 1.95% to reach $96,904, Ethereum gained 2.7% to $1,836, and Ripple rose 0.55% to $2.13. The total market capitalization of digital assets hit $3 trillion, with daily trading volume soaring by 33%.
